For butter or for worse... 27 toasters given to wedding couple
A BRIDE and groom regretted not issuing a wedding gift list – after they ended up with 27 toasters.
Mike and Victoria Seymour chose not to send one out before their big day because they preferred people to decide what they wanted to buy.
But they were left speechless when they unwrapped the gifts and discovered two-thirds of them were various brands of the kitchen appliance.
Victoria, 37, said: “We just couldn’t stop laughing as we opened them all up. It was so funny.”
She tied the knot with Mike, 44, in Mexico but the couple had a belated reception for 80 friends and family near their home last Saturday.
They were not expecting many presents but noticed a table loaded with them as they walked in to the Beeches Hotel, Nottingham.
Mike, a sales manager for a photocopy firm, said: “We did notice that they all looked similar shapes. But we didn’t think anything of it.”
Nurse Victoria, who has 10-year-old daughter Esme from a previous relationship, said: “By the time we had finished opening them, the pile was from the floor to the roof.
“The toasters were nearly all from Sainsbury’s and Tesco so a lot of thought had been put into it!”
Eventually, the couple realised it was a prank organised by Mike’s best man Rob Kanok, 40. Victoria said: “The first we knew what was really happening was when Rob got up and said, ‘Please raise your glasses for a toaster to the happy couple’.”
Victoria, who has managed to return most of the appliances, added: “The gauntlet has been laid down now and I’m already thinking of something to do for my friend’s wedding.”
